Section 101 client globalFEST brought their musical magic out west, SXSW to be exact, with an amazing showcase that could be viewed as a sign of the times. The Global Future showcase, featuring artists from around the world, drew a standing room crowd on March 16 at Palm Door on Sixth in Austin. During these times of turmoil, globalFEST believes it’s more important than ever to focus on the things that unite us rather than divide. Music is a greater unifier, with the distinctive ability to bridge cultural chasms and bring people together. This globalFEST showcase line up included electronic group Punjabtronix (India), Afro pop band Alsarah & The Nubatones (Africa), “Afro Future” masters Gato Preto (Africa), “tropical futurism” act Combo Chimbita (South America) and singer-songwriter Seyi Shay (Nigeria).

globalFEST’s flagship festival takes place every January in New York City and is America’s most important World Music industry event. Over 1,500 music professionals, media, artists and fans participate in this musical culture exchange. 2018’s GF featured Grand Tapestry, Ava Rocha, Delgres, Flor de Toloache, La Dame Blanche and more. globalFEST is now accepting applications for their 2019 event through May, 2018.
