February 25, 2010 - New York, NY – Duran Duran, whose official fan community is powered by Section 101 technology, has been confirmed as the headlining act for the GSMA, taking place in Barcelona, Spain.
The 15th Global Mobile Awards will be hosted by British comedian/actor Stephen Frye, with the Mobile Congress giving awards for Best Mobile Music Service, Best Mobile Game, Best Mobile TV Service, Best Mobile Internet Service and more. Instead of a sit-down dinner, as in past years, the ceremony will be capped by a performance by Award winning act Duran Duran. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes will give a speech to the Congress the day after the Award ceremony.
The band is very engaged in mobile and online, with Bassist John Taylor recently participating in UCLA College of Engineering’s symposium on Forty Years of the Internet. John’s speech was picked up by many news outlets due to his unique point of view on how the Internet both helps and hinders music lovers.
Duran Duran, who have sold 60 million records, remain active on their official website, https://www.duranduran.com as well as their official fan community at https://www.duranduranmusic.com. The band’s fan community provides members with opportunities for exclusive content, contesting, pre-sale ticket packages and more.
